"Grandchildren are the crown of the aged."
(Proverbs 17:6)

She knee-boarder—forwards and backwards.
She innertubed.
She drove the jet ski.
She loved on Bell, the dog.
She watched "How to Train a Dragon 3" with Granddaddy.
She prayed with Granddaddy and Memaw every night.
She went to church.
She ate fresh, Alabama peaches everyday.
She swam.
She drove the golf cart.
She visited the zoo.
She shopped till we dropped.
She enjoyed Johnny Rocket milkshake, burger, and fries.
She played with little cousins.
She played piano duets with Memaw.
She learned to play the harmonica.
She had her nails done.
She ate outside at Tazikis.
She played with little cousins again.
She fell off the boat—just once. She's okay.
She watched her first Hallmark mystery movie.
She ate ice cream.
She took an art class.
She played with little cousins, again.
She made her memaw laugh...a lot.

Oh, what a week we had. Grandgirls (and grandboys) surely are the crown of the aged. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for our fun time together!

Running to Win

grandboys

"Don't you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? Run to win!" (1 Corinthians 9:24)

The three-year-old and five-year-old grandboy/brothers entered their very first BMX strider-bike races last weekend, and won 1st and 2nd places in all three races. Woohoo!

In his letter to the Corinthians, the Apostle Paul compares the Christian life to an athletic competition. According to the Moody Bible Commentary, Paul may have had in mind the Isthmian Games held in Corinth. Contestants trained ten months and exercised in the gymnasium for thirty days before the games began. In comparison, everything Paul did was a calculated, disciplined effort to make gains for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

"When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish Law, I too lived under that Law...so I could bring to Christ those who are under the Law. When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow Jewish Law, I too live apart from the Law so I can bring them to Christ...Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings." (1 Corinthians 9:20-23)

Are you in the Gospel race, beloved? Running to win lost souls for Christ?

Vegetable Soup

>> Thursday, June 20, 2019

"I am the vine, and you are the branches," Jesus said. "Those who remain in Me, and I in them, will bear much fruit; for you can do nothing without Me...My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples." (John 15:5,8)

With the exceptions of the onions and mushrooms, every fruit of the vine in this delicious vegetable soup was produced in our two gardens.

O Lord, I pray that a spiritual crop this summer will far outweigh the fruit of the ground. Please use the work of our hands to enlarge, stretch out, strengthen, and lengthen Your kingdom for Your glory!

our kids and grands helping Granddaddy pick vegetables

"So then, as often as we have the chance, we should do good to everyone, and especially to those who belong to our family in the faith." (Galatians 6:10)

This morning, I'd just written Galatians 6:10 in my journal when my phone beeped—a text from my sweet, single-mom friend living in a women's shelter saying she has been approved for a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home!

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for blessing Felicia, and thank You for providing an immediate opportunity to help a sister in the faith.

Be ready, beloved. Opportunities to help another are popping up around us every single day!

Our Dan and grands

Jesus said, "...As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world." (John 15:19)

On last week's stay-cation, while the five-year-old grandboy rocked, "You got blood on your face, you big disgrace, waving your banner all over the place," his three-year-old cousin angelically sang in discord, "God is so good! God is so good!"

Feel out of harmony with the world, beloved? Good! Jesus did, too!

"My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it." ~ Jesus Christ, John 17:15-16 ~

Yesterday's double rainbow

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light." (Genesis 1:1-3)

Right from the get-go of biblical Scripture, we learn that the Spirit of God brings light, life, and order to darkness and chaos. Beloved, are you a dark place of confusion? Call on the Holy Spirit. Ask Him for light and order in your life!

Ancient Paths

Me

"Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls." (Jeremiah 6:16)

If you noticed yesterday's blog post missing, that's because I was spelunking. Yep! Exploring Manitou Cave with its new owner and my friend, Annette Reynolds.

We walked the ancient paths where the moccasins of Sequoyah and the Cherokee nation once quietly trod, where Civil War soldiers found shelter, and 1860s miners dug for saltpeter. We crossed the large ballroom where the Boom-Day citizens and tourists danced to a thousand candle lights in the late 1880s. Their signatures mark the rock walls, and Cherokee prayers mark the 50-foot ceilings.

In the sixth chapter of the Old Testament book of Jeremiah, we find the weary prophet lamenting over God's people not listening to the Lord nor obeying His word. Jeremiah warns of coming judgment and offers the hope of rest for their souls if they repent. He invites them to walk in the good way—God's way—but Jeremiah 6:16 concludes with Judah's strong refusal: "We will NOT walk in it."

In the New Testament, God repeats His invitation for soul-rest—this time through Jesus Christ Himself: "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)

O soul are you weary and troubled? Look for the ancient paths—God's ways. Walk in them. Run to Jesus. Find rest for your soul!

"Then Peter said, 'Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk!'" (Acts 3:6)

Yesterday, on family GroupMe, our Rebecca posted this snapshot:

Never forget, beloved, there's power in the blood of Jesus, and there's power in His name.

Would you be free from the burden of sin?
There's power in the blood, power in the blood.
Would you o'er evil a victory win?
There's wonderful power in the blood!

There is power, power, wonder-working power
In the blood of the Lamb.
There is power, power, wonder-working power
In the precious blood of the Lamb.1

1 THERE IS POWER IN THE BLOOD. Lewis Edgar, 1865.

How Do You Know?

My Jesus, my Phillip, and me
September 10, 1977

"This Good News tells us how God makes us right in His sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, 'It is through faith that a righteous person has life.'" (Romans 1:17)

A young man recently asked the good question: "How can you know for certain that your God is the one true God?"

There was never a time in my life when I did not believe in the existence of Jesus, but it wasn’t until I was in the 5thgrade, that I experienced Him strongly drawing me unto Himself. Our relationship began at a Billy Graham film at the local theater in Fort Payne, Alabama in the 1960s.

Jesus and I have been friends a LONG time now. Our relationship has grown as He talks to me through His word, the Bible, and I talk to Him through prayer. I learned (and am still learning) to recognize the voice of the Holy Spirit who lives  in me, and my training ground most always is the Camp of Troubles.

Phillip had a land and timber company in Louisiana that failed in the late 1980s. I was a young, stay-at-home mom of three. Financially, our family was in big trouble. One gray, cloudy day, I stood by a window and cried, “Where are You, Lord?” At that instant, the clouds parted, the light of the sun hit me full in the face for only a few seconds before it was covered once again by the clouds. I “heard” God’s gentle voice say, “Jill, I’m right here. You just can’t see me for these thick clouds of trouble. But just like you know the sun is always above the rain clouds, know that I am always with you.”

During those years of recovery, God provided for our family in amazing ways. He fed us. He clothed us. He gave us a roof over our heads. He gave Phillip a job that has exceeded our expectations and dreams and imaginations, and He abundantly restored more than what was lost.

There are many, many other things which Jesus has done for us, which if written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written. (The Apostle John gave that same testimony in John 21:25)

And the Bible says: “There is a way that seems right to man, but its end is the way to death. (Proverbs 14:12) For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. (Romans 3:23) For the wages of sin is death [spiritual, eternal death], but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) For this is how God loved the world: He gave His only Son [Jesus Christ], so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. He sent Jesus into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him.” (John 3:16-17)

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6) If  you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved [from eternal death and the punishment for your sin]. (Romans 10:9)

“Whoever denies that Son does not have the Father, but the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.” (1 John 2:23) There is no judgment against anyone who believes in Jesus. But anyone who does not believe in Him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son, Jesus Christ.” (John 3:18)

With God's gift of salvation, He does not make a bad person good; God makes a spiritually dead person alive!

Beloved, Jesus loves you; this I know. He died in your stead, and that's the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So help me God!
