Jesus said, "Let Me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You've lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage." (Matthew 5:13 - The Message)
One of the fun "perks" of old-ladyhood is increased blood pressure. Last week, when my BP rose into the problem zone, I increased exercise a bit and decreased salt a ton. The results: my blood pressure dropped so dramatically that the world began to spin, and I had to add some salt back into my diet.
In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told His followers, "You are the salt of the earth!" Salt hinders the spread of bacteria, creates thirst, and enhances flavor, and the salty love of Christ shaking out of Christians will hinder the spread of corruption, create a thirst for God, and enhance grace, love, goodness, and mercy around the world.
