Make Every Effort

"His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence." (2 Peter 1:3)

Because God has given us everything we need for a godly life, we may participate in His divine nature and escape the corruption of this evil world. "For this very reason [beloved], make every effort to add to your faith, goodness; and to goodness, knowledge, and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness, and to godliness, brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ." (2 Peter 1:5-8)

And if we make the effort? O, what a wonderful world it would.

"This is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another." (1 John 3:23)

Not for yesterday. Not for tomorrow. A daylily lives for today.

Today, beloved, believe on the name of Jesus Christ and love one another.

A Coosa River ride with Aunt Rebecca

"May the LORD watch between you and me when we are absent one from another." (Genesis 31:49)

Alas, our beloved Rebecca and three grands loaded up the minivan and headed north this morning. Sure is quiet around here.

Father God, please watch between us while we are absent one from another and bring us back together soon. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Beloved, savor every moment with loved ones.

"This is the day that the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it!" (Psalm 118:24)

Granddaddy's favorite verse is Psalm 118:24. On a fill-in-the-blank Happy Father's Day card, the four-year-old grandboy filled in this sentence as follows:

Granddaddy's favorite things to say is: CHIPS! I will rejoice and be glad in it!

SMILE and have a great day with Jesus and family, beloved!

"A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." (Proverbs 17:22)

When their cousin lost his tennis shoes, I sent the grandboys on a "treasure hunt," and the finders got a prize: an Oreo and a nickel each. They were happy as clams in high water.

Beloved, what does it take to make you happy? "Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4)

The Miracles of Two Chairs

"...with God all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26)

The miracles of two chairs:

Remember Kelsey, the young mother of two in ICU on a ventilator with heart failure after Covid-19?

This morning, her grandmother reported: "Kelsey sat in a chair for 4 hours yesterday. She will probably go to rehab next week. Her heart has gotten so strong that it is competing with the LVAD, so in a few months they will take out the LVAD which is really God's miracle. Praise God!"

And then there's 87-year-old Nell, who contracted Covid-19 and was also in the hospital on a ventilator...

This morning, her daughter reported: "Mother is progressing [at rehab]. She's even sitting in a chair now."

Thank You, thank You, thank You, Almighty God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. With You all things truly are possible!

"Be completely humble and  gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." (Ephesians 4:2-3)

What the world needs now is love sweet love.

So, beloved, make every effort to show kindness to someone different than you.

Thank a police officer.

Smile.

And pray.

And pray.

Make the light of Jesus shine into the darkness.

It's only a matter of time before this beautiful, strong oak crashes into the Coosa River because...

its roots are ripping out of the unstable soil.

Beloved, stand firm. "Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than Christ." God Will Take Care of You

grandboys and me

"For I hold you by your right hand—I, the LORD your God. And I say to you, 'Don't be afraid. I am here to help you.'" (Isaiah 41:13)

When I asked an elderly friend if she had been in quarantine, she shook her head and said, "No, not really. I'm careful to wash my hands and things like that, but I just believe the Lord will take care of me."

And like a shepherd over helpless sheep, Jesus will take care of you, beloved.

"The LORD is my shepherd;
I have all I need.
He makes me rest in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to His name.
Even when I walk through
the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for You are close beside me."
(Psalm 23:1-4)

"As a deer longs for a stream of cool water, so I long for You, O God. I thirst for You, the living God." (Psalm 42:1-2)

Days without water leave a flower wilted and thirsty. So is the soul without Jesus.

Jesus said, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to Me and drink!" (John 7:37)

The Spirit and bride say, "Come!" And let the one who hears say, "Come!" Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. (Revelation 22:17)

Beloved, have you drunk from the well of Living Water today?

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD..."plans to give you a hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

When his mommy asked our four-year-old grandboy what he wanted for lunch today, he answered, "I want a cheese and jelly sandwich."

"A what???"

"A cheese and jelly sandwich. That would taste really good!" he insisted.

So Memaw made the boy a cheese and jelly sandwich, and while he gobbled it down, we made grand plans to one day own the one and only cheese-and-jelly-sandwich food truck in the whole wide world.

Beloved, rest assured, Father God has grand plans for you, too!

"Bear with each other,  and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." (Colossians 3:13)

Games and Galoshes

"This is the day that the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it!" (Psalm 118:24)

As a preschooler, my very favorite book in the whole wide world was Little Galoshes. When Little Galoshes was in the house he wore little brown shoes. But whenever he put on his little blue coat, and his little red cap, and his little red woolly mittens, and started out the door, his mother called to him, "Put on your little galoshes!" And he always did.

On Saturday, we're headed to the beach with our six kids and seven grands and Tropical Storm Cristobal. Because I'm the mother, I said, "Kids, don't forget to pack your games and galoshes. Come rain or come shine, we'll have fun and rejoice in the day that the LORD has made."

Beloved, come rain or come shine, rejoice in the Lord Jesus and be glad in Him.
