There's No One Like You

"LORD, there is no one like You! For You are great, and Your name is full of power. Who would not fear You, O King of the nations? That title belongs to You alone! Among all the wise people of the earth and in all the kingdoms of the world, there is no one like You." (Jeremiah 10:6-7)

Our oldest grandson was given this school assignment: from the 7 billion people on our planet, choose the one you admire the most and write a paper about that person (quite a disconcerting task for a young man who does NOT like to choose favorites). 

After painstaking deliberation, he narrowed 7 billion to friends and family, friends and family to family, family to grandparents, grandparents to grandfathers; and finally grandfathers to...

Granddaddy:

        "A special person I admire is Phillip Larry Glassco. I call him granddaddy. He was born in 1955, and he will turn sixty on Saturday. Granddaddy, who is a forester, lives in Alabama. He has a lot of land, and I like to hear him talk about it. Granddaddy is active for his age. He is also healthy, because he exercises two hours a day. Until it's dinnertime, we play games like checkers and X-box 360. I like to play with him at his house. I also like to go fishing in his backyard, and one time I caught sixteen fish! Additionally, I like to swim with him in his pool. Granddaddy makes really cool things, and one time he made a couch out of a log. Granddaddy is a really good grandfather."

More than the love and admiration of a young boy for his grandfather, O LORD, is our great love for You! Great is Your name and greatly to be praised. You are the One true God, and besides You there is no Savior. You are gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and great in lovingkindness. You pardon all iniquities, heal all diseases, redeem from the pit, and crown with compassion whosoever believes on You. You alone are God, and we are Your people, the sheep of Your pasture. Let everything that has breath praise You, LORD!
