our Dan and his boys

"To the one who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows except the one who receives it." (Revelation 2:17)

Sunday afternoon at the farm, the two-year-old grandboy found a granddaddy long legs (that according to the internet, by the way, is neither poisonous nor a spider) and said, "Wook! Memaw-granddaddy legs!"

Throughout Scripture, God gave new names: Abram to Abraham, Jacob to Israel, Sarai to Sarah, Simon to Peter, Saul to Paul. In His message to the Church of Pergamum, Jesus promised a new name to those who heard and heeded what the Spirit said.

A new name was more than a title; it was a testimony of God's transforming work. God changed Abram (high father) into Abraham (father of a multitude of many nations). God changed Sarai (argumentative) to Sarah (princess). He changed Saul (murderer of Christians) to Paul (author of 13 books of the New Testament).

If you belong to God by faith in His Son Jesus, one day He will give you a new name and a new body. "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable must put on imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality (1 Cor. 15:52-53)

Beloved, may this great news give you strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.
