Rebecca's soccer team, 1990s |
“Who among you fears the Lord, listening to THE VOICE of His Servant (Jesus)? Who among you walks in darkness, and has no light? Let him trust in the name of YAHWEH; let him lean on his God.” (Isa. 50:10 HCS)
When Bill moved his family to Birmingham, our daughters
“just happened” to land on the same soccer team. Since everybody in the South is a Christian, I asked, “Have y’all found a
church?”
“No,” they said.
“Then please visit our church. We’re having an Easter
pageant and here are three tickets. You can sit with us,” I offered.
They accepted and came to the Easter program.
The following week, Bill and his family also joined us for
Wednesday supper at the church. As I told them about that night’s activities, Bill
suddenly slapped the table with both palms and said, “Look! You don’t understand.
I’ve never attended a church. I don’t know what this is all about!”
I sat stunned for a moment, then replied, “Well, in the
beginning God created the heavens and the earth…”
Never assume! The one believed to walk in light may very
well be a lost treasure in darkness! Oh, servant of the Living God, be THE
VOICE that sounds the GOOD NEWS: relationship with God through Jesus Christ,
the Son.
“I solemnly urge you in the presence of God and
Christ Jesus, who will someday judge the living and the dead when He appears to
set up His kingdom: preach the Word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is
favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with
good teaching.” (2 Tim. 4:1-2 NLT)
