grandboy helping clean-up at the farm

"You have been a defense for the helpless, a defense for the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat..." (Isaiah 25:4)

At 4:00 a.m. Palm Sunday morning, my cell phone blew up with text messages to take cover because a tornado was barreling toward our neighborhood. It hit one block from our house. Thankfully, the destruction was limited to downed trees and damaged roofs, but if the weatherman's predictions hold, more uninvited, severe storms will rage on Thursday.

Yes, beloved, Jesus warned that storms are part of life on earth—atmospheric, relational, emotional, and physical—but to take courage and trust in Him.

"He will cover you with His pinions,
And under His wing you may seek refuge;
His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.
You will not be afraid of the terror by night,
or the arrow that flies by day;
Of the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
Or of the destruction that lays waste at noon...
For He will give His angels charge concerning you,
To guard you in all your ways."
(Psalm 91:4-5,11)
