God Answers Prayers

At the end of the service, the pastor challenged young folks to resolve in their hearts before God never to taste alcohol. Quite a few youth responded to that call, moved from their seats, and made their way to the altar.

Three years later, most of those teens had either forgotten that pledge or chosen to ignore it. However, one handsome, strapping young man kept his promise. On a Friday night, the sixteen-year-old, weary of taking care of his buddies that weekly broke that vow, prayed, “Lord, please just let me meet the girl I’m going to marry so I can get away from these rabble-rousers and focus on her.’”

Two weeks later, at a whiffle-ball game in the parking lot between the First Baptist and First Methodist churches, we met. On September 10, 2012, Phillip and I celebrated 35 years of marriage. To this day, my superman has never tasted alcohol.
