“Then you will take delight in the Lord, and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth; and I will feed you with the heritage of…your father, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
Isaiah 58:14
This old family portrait was taken in 1950 on
the day that my paternal
great-grandparents celebrated their Golden
Anniversary. Benjamin Franklin “Frank” and Viola Beason Robison married on
April 25, 1900: Frank’s father’s birthday.
Columbus Washington Robison, my
great-great-grandfather, was born on April 25, 1846. At sixteen, he enlisted in
the army and served in the Civil War from 1861-1865. After the war, he became a
Methodist Circuit Rider, traveling on horseback to preach the Word of God to
various congregations scattered across the sparsely populated farmlands of
Alabama.
Next week, the new semester of Bible
studies that I teach begins. I’ve been assigned the solemn responsibility and
privilege of traveling to various neighborhoods in our city to teach the Word
of our faithful God.

“Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
Serve the Lord with gladness;
come before Him with joyful singing.
Know that the Lord Himself is God;
it is He who has made us,
and not we ourselves;
we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving
and His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name!
For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is
everlasting
and His faithfulness to all generations.”
Psalm 100:1-5
