Delana, Carolyn, Ann, and me
"Armor of God" skit, Valleydale Baptist, 1990s

"The Lord protects you; the Lord is a shelter right by your side." (Psalm 121:5)

In some of the places I teach the Bible, the spiritual darkness is so strong that, at times, I become physically weak. So, I've learned to wear God's armor and to enlist faithful prayer warriors to cover my back. (I recently heard of one ministry that requires their workers to have at least five people covering them in prayer as they serve.)

Trained soldiers never step into battle absent of weapons and protective gear, and wise Christians should never attempt ministry unequipped and uncovered. The Apostle Paul admonished the church of Ephesus, "A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on all of God's armor [truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, God's word, and prayer] so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil...Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will be standing firm...And pray...ask God to give [you] the right words so [you] can boldly explain God's mysterious plan that the Good News [of salvation in Jesus] is for [everybody]" (Eph. 6:10-20)!

So, ladies and gentlemen, let's put on God's armor, ramp up the prayers, charge into the darkness, and carry the light of Jesus Christ to wounded souls!

O Lord, I pray that my readers and I will go forth boldly into places of spiritual darkness and tell Your Good News of never-ending life by Your grace through faith in Jesus Christ! May the fragrance of Jesus linger everywhere we go! In Jesus name! Amen and amen.

"But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing!" (2 Cor. 2:14-15)
